The Process
If the environments in which we live shape our perceptions of reality, the places I have enjoyed have influenced the way I express my vision of the world -- or at least the one I would prefer to inhabit. I grew up in Oklahoma, lived overseas for a decade, and returned to the Southwest where there is inspiration in every corner of the landscape.
My work has evolved over the years, and after focusing on sensitive figurative painting for two decades, I am currently exploring subjects with more vivid color and expressive surfaces. In addition to painting, I love to sculpt, and have created bronzes and still life objects as references for my paintings. If I could not find the subjects envisioned for a composition, I learned taxidermy, wood carving, photography, etc. to create subject matter.
Whether painting, sculpting or constructing, my work is inspired by the uniqueness of the individual and the beauty that surrounds us.
